This phenomenon often leads to overcrowding, environmental degradation, strain on infrastructure, and disruptions to local communities’ daily lives. Popular cities like Venice, Rome, and Florence have been particularly affected by overtourism, prompting authorities to implement measures to manage the impact and preserve these cultural treasures.

How the tourism sector influences the climate crisis

The travel and tourism industry, encompassing transportation, food consumption, and accommodation, significantly contributes to global carbon emissions, exacerbating the alarming pace of the climate change crisis. Climate change presents a health emergency, leading to considerable health implications for travelers, including heightened heat-related illnesses, diseases transmitted through food, water, or vectors, and a rising susceptibility to emerging infectious diseases.

Leap into the marche! the 2024 social campaign starts with gianmarco tamberi

Starting from January 2024, the promotional social campaign of the Marche Region with the social ambassador Gianmarco Tamberi, world champion and Olympic high jump champion has been launched. For the next few months, new promo videos and shots taken in five locations in the Marche will be published on the social channels of the Region and Gianmarco, to disseminate the thousand facets of the Marche regional territory.

Andalusia publishes new grants of up to 60,000 euros to help tourism businesses become digital.

The Junta de Andalucía has approved subsidies for digitalization of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses and self-employed workers in the autonomous community of Andalusia. This initiative is part of the Strategy for the Economic Transformation of Andalusia Horizon 2027, aiming to improve competitiveness, growth, and innovation in the digital market. Greece Continues to Push for Sustainable Tourism

Over the past decade, Greece has made significant strides in developing sustainable tourism as a key pillar of its economic growth strategy. New edition of the Sustainability Plans: 478 M€ for destinations

A new edition of the Tourism Sustainability Plans was launched last January by the Government and the autonomous communities, endowed with €478 from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. This is the 3rd Edition of the Tourism Sustainability Plan that are earmarked for projects in which environmental sustainability and digitalization are prioritized to achieve tourism that is more competitive and of higher quality. The first panel was on Decarbonisation – the transition to true net zero; the second panel was on social creating better places to live in, to work in and to visit; and the third one was about the future of sustainable transport. On the evening the Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards took place.
